| President's Message |
I am still lagging from the San Diego BOMA National convention as I write this message. There were several high notes, including:
- the camaraderie with other chapters and our own Steve Coleman, Ray Spriggs, Steve Flug, Mike Quick, Ryan Wiederstein, Kurt Larson, Joyce McMickle and Dawn and Dean O'Connor.
- BOMA Iowa made the motion to have BOMA National dues frozen for two years, and the motion passed unanimously.
- Great sessions, including Neurolinguistics and how to "read" your customers' body language (ask Steve Coleman for the highlights)
- A vibrant vendor Exposition with hundreds of exhibitors discussing the newest technologies for our buildings
If you haven't attended a conference, you should start now with the budgeting process with your boss. It's a lot of fun and we received quality education from a national and international perspective. Now it's back to mowing the lawn every three days and catching up on sleep...

| New Member Spotlight - Shane Isley |
Bernau Capital Partners consists of companies in the retail, finance, and real estate industries. We began as one franchised Aaron's Sales and Lease location in 1996. Since that time we have grown to 50 Aaron's locations, five Valvoline Quick Lube locations, two title and abstract locations (Boone County and Webster County), and 33 investment properties. We also operate three consumer financing companies and the Des Moines Marathon.
As the Director of Real Estate, my team and I manage the performance of the properties in our investment portfolio, including acquisition and disposition. In addition we are also responsible for all leasing, site selection, relocation, and lease management within our various companies.
I spend as much time as I can with my wife and daughter. We love to spend time at the park, on our patio, or watching anything that involves Disney. There is a good chance I might spend an entire Sunday wearing a crown while having picnics in our family room. I wouldn't have it any other way.
I also try to golf and watch the Minnesota Twins play whenever I can.
My wife, Cara, and I have been married for 2 ½ years and live in Altoona, IA. We have an amazing two year old daughter, Savannah.
