President's Message

It's November 1 and this is the second to last President's message that I'll "entertain" you with (snore, snore, snore...who reads this thing anyway?).  Somehow, I'll try to inject the phrase "a crisp $5 bill" into this newsletter.

Fun fact for you:  the word "November" is derived from the Latin word "Novem", meaning "9" because it was originally the ninth month of the Roman calendar.  Though we now use the Gregorian calendar, it still feels like the ninth month of the year...wasn't it just September yesterday?!!  WTH (heck)?!   I imagine that when I'm 75 years old, I'll be sitting on my front porch reading the "newspaper" on my IMac version 104 and it will go from spring to fall in one sitting.  Maybe I'm a slow reader, maybe global warming will be more severe then or maybe, TIME FLIES!  Speaking of changing weather patterns, KCCI Chief Meteorologist, John McLaughlin is speaking at our next luncheon, Tuesday, November 19.

A long overdue "thanks" to Social Chairperson, Craig Clabaugh and his committee.  First, they hosted some great social gatherings this year which culminates in the Holiday Party this week, Thursday, November 7 at Exile Brewing.  SIGN UP NOW if you haven't already and feel free to pay for and bring a guest, spouse, lover or complete stranger (for some of us, that might be the same person on a given day...go ahead and read that again).  Craig "retires" on December 31 from the BOMA Iowa board but he chose a bright and energetic replacement, Karen Goldsworth from Strauss Security Solutions   That said, Karen has to survive the secretive "BOMA board hazing" ritual and the board approval process at the November general meeting.   Visualize "Silence of the Lambs" meets "Animal House"...

And lastly, thanks to all of our BOMA Iowa members for your faith in us.   And now, I'm offering a crisp $5 bill to the person who sends me an email detailing (in my opinion) the best story or saying about "time flying".

Sincerely,

Jeff Hatfield, CPM, RPA

BOMA Iowa (soon to be lame duck) President
