President's Message

It is unbelievable that the summer is nearing an end. The State Fair begins this week, which is an inevitable sign that fall is nearly upon us. Most of you are in the process of preparing budgets for the upcoming year. I know the big question you all have........what do I budget for snow removal? It is amazing to me how much Mother Nature can impact a facility budget. Well, I am not going to even try to answer the question, but I do want to offer up some thoughts on how BOMA International website can assist you in budgeting and other reference needs.

Experience Exchange Report - The EER can be a great help to you in the budgeting process. First, you can filter by building type, location, size, etc. allowing you to get comparative information to make sure you are in line with peer properties. Second, the EER is a great way to review and validate industry trends and better understand operational tendencies. Lastly, a great resource to aid you in your rebidding process by allowing you to compare your costs to the industry to help focus on specific budget line items that may be above the norm.
White Papers - Whether its information around the impact of VSD's on chiller performance, sustainability ideas or building commissioning protocols, the white paper links can be a very useful reference.
Case Studies - Reference case studies provided by vendors and other BOMA members that showcase various operational improvements that can help you trim your building budgets and improve performance.

Member Spotlight - Rachael Larson

Rachael Larson has been with Siemens Industry, Inc. - Building Technologies Division since 2009 and is currently a Sales Executive for Building Automation in West and Central Iowa. In this role, she is responsible for gaining and maintaining strategic relationships with numerous companies and public entities across Iowa, identifying issues and proposing solutions to resolve these issues. This includes negotiating Service Contracts, developing projects on control systems for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) controls, service on low and medium voltage electrical equipment, and helping companies save energy and achieve environmental goals through energy service projects. The Building Technologies Division of Siemens also provides services and solutions in Fire and Security Systems.

Rachael is currently working to finish her MBA through Iowa State and should be done this summer. She enjoys cooking, reading, camping, and watching musicals. She marched Drum and Bugle Corps for 10 years in the colorguard (Flagline and dance) and is excited to perform with the Blue Stars Alumni 50th Anniversary Reunion Corps this summer.

She has been married to her husband, Nate, for almost 2 years. They do not currently have any children.
